Truth Hurts

Aftermathmusic.com:
Hello Shari. Long time no talked. Hope you remember me. We sat down last year in Berlin / Germany in August. I run Aftermathmusic.com and your personal website TruthHurts.net.

Truth Hurts: Alright. Thank you for that.

Aftermathmusic.com:
How are you? What have you been up to recently?

Truth Hurts: Oh, I started my 2nd record, changing the record company, doin a film and television things.

Aftermathmusic.com:
I talked to Kamid and he said, you just finished shooting with Lorenz Tate in a new independent movie. What can you tell us about this movie?

Truth Hurts: Actually, very little. It’s about a hip hop star bascially and becoming a hip hop star. He’s trying to be a rapper, he’s trying to be in the music game. It’s a real little story on it. But it’s gonna be nice, I think.

Aftermathmusic.com:
So are you doing alot more acting in the future?

Truth Hurts: Yes, definetely. I´m trying to become a movie star (laughs). But definetely both – music and movies.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Let’s talk about the $500Mio. lawsuit against Aftermath. What happened exactly?

Truth Hurts: Uuuum, yeah. (little break) … listen now

Aftermathmusic.com:
Short after this lawsuit you was dropped by Aftermath in March. I`m not sure, about the legalities on that. What I know, you had this lawsuit but I dunno if that had something to do with your throwing out. Is the lawsuit the reason?

Truth Hurts: That was one of the reason. The marketing and promotion like it’s not happened for the 2nd single and all of that played a part of that. There were several things. But that was one of the main things, yes.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What did you feel, when Aftermath said, they wanna drop you from the roster?

Truth Hurts: Uuumm. They really didn’t. They gave me an option. They told me what is gonna happen if I stay on the label and under Interscope and I told Dr. Dre that it would be the best thing to leave.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Ok, let’s talk about “Truthfully speaking”. Do you think, that your album was a success?

Truth Hurts: Yeah definetely. I think it brokes some barriers for RnB. That was what I set up to do. But I think it did bad for me. It didn’t sell what the Ashanti’s did, or Beyonce’s. But to me it broke some barriers. It changed some things …

Aftermathmusic.com:
Do you remember my question in our last interview: Your 1st single “Addictive” generated a hype, but what does Aftermath do to save you from beeing a “One Hit Wonder”? I think it’s very sad, but I think, you was a “One Hit Wonder”, but I hope we can change that soon. Do you agree?

Truth Hurts: Uuum, I would say Yes and No, because you can’t say, that people become a superstar after only 1 single. So pretty much people knew who I was after that single. The problem was, we had no big promotion for the album.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Do you think your album came out to late, cause “Addictive” blew the fuck up, by the time the album dropped and the Addictive’s flame was blown out.

Truth Hurts: Yes, 100%. It definetely did.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What about a new label deal? I expect you on an RnB label. Can you give us some more information?

Truth Hurts: Yeah, I´m trying to figure out where I wanna be. I have a couple of offers and I´m trying to see which direction I wanna go at this point. If I wanna do a company or I want to do just an artist. I know just beeing an artist doesn’t really pay off.

Aftermathmusic.com:
I talked to DJ Jam.

Truth Hurts: You did?

Aftermathmusic.com:
Yes, and he said me, you hosted his RnB Midnite Groove mixtape. What about a new album from you?

Truth Hurts: It’s coming when it’s done … (laughs). We working on it.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Who are the producers and features on your new album? Can you give us some more information?

Truth Hurts: Dre is gonna to produce some songs on the new album. Definetaly have Busta Rhymes … uuummm God …

Aftermathmusic.com:
What about Rakim?

Truth Hurts: Maybe Rakim. I haven’t really thought about it. Maybe Rakim, you know, it’s really when I go into the studio and I put songs together it depends what’s the vibe on the songs is. But I´l think about a song …

Aftermathmusic.com:
We have been getting word back from insiders that people think that you are reffering the track “no regrets” on Bosko’s mixtape to Dr. Dre.

Truth Hurts: Damn, where did you get that? (loud)

Aftermathmusic.com:
Oh, from several internet websites and forums …

Truth Hurts: Ohh (laughs). That’s funny. I´m not reffering this track to Dr. Dre.

Aftermathmusic.com:
How is your relationship to Dr. Dre and Aftermath now?

Truth Hurts: My relationship with Dr. Dre is wonderful. We speak every day and talk about what I can do next. Pretty much, that’s about it, so with Aftermath … same thing. He definetley wants to be a part of the projects. He believes in me. It was just a political thing and he really couldn’t get involved. So at this point we wanna do some more songs.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Can we expect a collaboration track on “Detox”?

Truth Hurts: Yeah, of course.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Do you have any information on “Detox”?

Truth Hurts: No, I don’t. It’s just getting started. It’s called Detox. That’s all information at this point.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What’s your thoughts about the Aftermath n Shady artists currently?

Truth Hurts: Uuum I don’t really know any Shady artists besides 50. Brooklyn is on Aftermath, Joe Beast is … and Rakim still is.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What??? Rakim is still on Aftermath?

Truth Hurts: Yes. There was an article in a magazine, I think the Source, that he’s not with Aftermath. I have no idea.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Hold on, please. What??? I talked to his manager and he said, that Ra left Aftermath.

Truth Hurts: (Short break) … Yes he did. And I think that few people will leaveing the label. And I think, that Joe Beast definetely is one of of them. That’s my opinion.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Ohhh damn. Ok.

Truth Hurts: You know, how the business works. That’s the business.

Aftermathmusic.com:
The up in Smoke Tour part 2 is in works right now. Will you be a part of it again? Are there any news?

Truth Hurts: If Dre asks me … but I would.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What are your thoughts on the current state of hip hop?

Truth Hurts: I think Hip Hop is actually doing well. It changing things for RnB. So I think Hip Hop is changing the game for all of us. Things doin well, but we’ll see what will happen.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What do you think about the young RnB artists like Ashanti or Beyonce?

Truth Hurts: I think Beyonce is kickin ass. (laughs)

Aftermathmusic.com:
No words about Ashanti?

Truth Hurts: No. (laughs)

Aftermathmusic.com:
Any last words or shout outs?

Truth Hurts: Thank you for being loyal and you know, for my appreciation. I´ll be out there yery soon. I´m keepin hits for ya`ll. I’ll be around.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Thank you for the Interview and I we keep in touch!

Truth Hurts: Yeah, definetely. Kamid is my right hand. And we definetely keep in touch! Peace!
