Stat Quo

Aftermathmusic.com:
Sup Stat, we talked last year. How would you describe your state-of-mind today?

Stat Quo:
Well my state of mind today is good, man. I’m thinking about the grind, how I can do what I need to do to make sure all my people and myself are comfortable. So…my state of mind, I’m in a good state of mind… it’s all gravy for your folk, you understand me?

Aftermathmusic.com:
How did the 50 and Game split affect you?

Stat Quo:
Umm…I really been so caught up in concentrating on making my album, you know? And making sure I represent the ATL Zone 3 the right way… and I really didn’t get caught up in what was going on so… I don’t know enough details about the situation for it to really have a deep effect on me so… that’s where I’m at wit’ that.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Let’s talk about your upcoming album “Statlanta”. How’s your album coming?

Stat Quo:
Ah man it’s going great; you know what I’m saying? Dr.Dre and Eminem, you know… they’re right there with me as I create it and it’s definitely a masterpiece from my standpoint. And when I play some of the records for people they tell me that so…umm it feels good to know that what I’m trying to convey and the message in my songs is definitely getting out there when people hear the music.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What’s a studio session with Stat Quo like?

Stat Quo:
Hmmm… you definitely got some food in there, you know? You got to eat; you know what I’m saying? Umm…got some drink in there, you know what I’m saying? You know, mo’ fuckas drink or whatever… some smoke. But… you know, that typically… all that partying and playing shit happens after mo’ fuckas done made like a hit and shit. You know, it’s really business oriented, you know? This is a job, you know? So… as much as we love to do it, we trying to make classic materiel so… our minds on making the incredible music. So that’s where we are at when we go in the studio.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What can we expect on this album?

Stat Quo:
Greatness! Greatness is what you can expect from this album. You know, I’m putting everything I have into it. I feel like it’s a representation of me… the whole project. So, I definitely feel like its greatness that you can expect.

Aftermathmusic.com:
There’s an interesting line-up of guests on this album too. How did you go about choosing who you got?

Stat Quo:
Umm… everybody on my album that I picked to be on the album is people that I’m fans of; you know what I’m saying? It’s actually people that I went out and purchased they album when they album came out. And then… these people is just good people that I fool with period. So, that’s how I went about doing it. I put people that I’m down wit’ on my album, you know what I’m saying?

Aftermathmusic.com:
Busta Rhymes or Tony Yayo just got pushed back, does that concern you that your album may get pushed back as well?

Stat Quo:
Umm… you know everybody’s situation is different… so I don’t really think about what somebody else’s project is doing. I just make sure mines’ is correct and then when time comes for them to decide when to put it out we handle it then. But I don’t really, you know… another mans path is that mans path. You know, I walk my own way so I don’t want to get caught up.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What’s your favorite song on that album?

Stat Quo:
Umm… I have a favorite song every other day. You know, so one day it might be this song the next day it might be this song. So… it’s so many days in the year, you know? I have a favorite song on the album every… you know what I’m saying? Haha… all my songs on my album is my favorite. It’s like my kids, man. You know, I don’t have any kids yet but… you know, it’s like you can’t pick a favorite child, you know? They all your kids, you love them all the same.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What message do you want to send with the “Statlanta” album?

Stat Quo:
Well the message that I’m trying to send… I just really want the audience to know a lot more about me; you know what I’m saying? Where I’m from, how I get down, how I do what ii do, you know what I’m saying? It’s just kind of like; you know… my introduction to the world. So, I’m just introducing myself so… how’re you doing world? Get the album, you know what I mean?

Aftermathmusic.com:
What does “Statlanta” say about Stat Quo?

Stat Quo:
Umm… like I said, it introduces me… like me as a person; you know what I’m saying? How I move, how I maneuver, who I choose to be wit’, how I hang out, how I treat bitches, how I treat you know…family, you know… different aspects of my life. Different things, you know what I’m saying? How I party, how I have a good time, how I feel when I’m fucked up. It’s just all aspects of me period. Point blank. That’s what it is.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What do you want your fans to take away from “Statlanta”?

Stat Quo:
Well, I want them to take away me. You keep asking me the same mo’ fucking questions (LOL). But uh… I want them to learn about me. That’s the point of me doing the album so… you and your same questions, we’ll do it again. I want them to learn more about me, man. I told you that about four questions ago, ha-ha.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Can you tell us about the first single?

Stat Quo:
It’s the shit, period. You know, I got so many records that could be the first single umm… so we just trying to go through a picking process of what we going to come out with first. So there we are wit’ that.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What do you want to say to everybody reading this interview?

Stat Quo:
Umm… believe half of what you read and the majority of what you see with your own two eyes in person. Not on TV, ’cause on TV its bullshit; you know what I’m saying? That’s what I want to say… that’s what I want to say to you. And just really… like write that down what I said so ya’ll feel what I’m talking about, you understand me?

Aftermathmusic.com:
You have your debut album “Statlanta” in the works with Eminem and Dre as the executive producers. How is the creative control handled with Em and Dre?

Stat Quo:
Normally, we sit down with all the records and decide “ok, this is what we’re going to do… we want this, this, that”. And that’s how you know, we come to an agreement on what we all like, you know what I’m saying? And… they let me do me and I do my thing, you know what I’m saying? And they either like it or they don’t like it. But most of the time they love it so… it’s been going real good, ha-ha.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Is there someone you would have liked to get on this LP but couldn’t?

Stat Quo:
Uh… hmmm, not really ’cause if I really wanted them on there… we had the money to pay it. So not really… next in the future I would like to do a song with Outkast so… we’ll do some shit like that.

Aftermathmusic.com:
With this LP, if you had to choose between making a hip-hop classic or selling a ton of records, what would you choose?

Stat Quo:
I’m going to do both! So that’s what it is.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Have you ever worried about what the fans will say about you when you make a song?

Stat Quo:
Nah, ’cause if you spend your time worried about what another mo’ fuckas think about you… you’re going to die. You have to do you and not worry about what somebody else says. It doesn’t matter; you do your own thing.

Aftermathmusic.com:
And the release date for “Statlanta”, can you confirm it?

Stat Quo:
Soon as it’s finished is when it’s coming out. So, write that down: Soon as the album’s finished its coming out. That’s the release date.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What do you enjoy the most, being a solo artist or working for Grown Man Music?

Stat Quo:
Umm… I feel like those are in one, you know what I’m saying? Like, everything I do as an artist is for GMM ’cause, you know… it’s the shit we’re establishing. So, they’re both intertwined together… it’s the same thing so, I enjoy both of those actually. I would do it for free.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Do you have any other ventures you’re working on?

Stat Quo:
You know, we doing a lot of shit with GMM. We got LT Moe who is a producer signed to us. Got a lot of outside projects… Tony Yayo’s “Pimpin” record, two records on Busta Rhymes’ new album coming out, he got a record on Ludacris’ album that just came out The Red Light District, on Luda’s new album has a couple of records on there, you know what I’m saying? We’re working on a movie, you know what I mean? All my hood mo’ fuckas know, I got the potato chips…go ahead and get your bag of those… they go good wit’ turkey sandwiches or you know, if you like that bologna… whatever you into, you know what I’m saying? Haha… uh… we fielding scripts right now, we’re probably going to film a movie down in Atlanta here soon coming out on Grown Man Movies, you know what I’m talking about? So, we doing our damn thing… we putting’ it in, you understand me?

Aftermathmusic.com:
Are you planning on continuing your music, or focus more on the business aspect of rap?

Stat Quo:
I want kind of to do both; you know what I’m saying? I definitely feel like I want to move into that realm to where I have the option to do certain things in the business. But… umm, I just want to see where I grow as an artist. I’m just interested to see where I’m at like… five years from now on this rap shit.

Aftermathmusic.com:
Everybody heard about this bus accident. What’s up with your manager and Alchemist?

Stat Quo:
Well, Alchemist has a puncture in his lungs, but he’s trying to get over that. My manager still fucked up pretty bad he broke damn near everything… he’s laid up. He’s not really able to do a lot of the duties that he had to do prior to… so… but I speak to him on a daily bases. So, we just trying to get by and do it as best we can.

Aftermathmusic.com:
How was the tour for you?

Stat Quo:
Ah man, the tour’s an incredible thing, man. It’s definitely dope. The fact that I had the opportunity to be on the roll with such established artists. You’re talking about Lil’ Jon, you’re talking 50 and all the guys in G-Unit, Em and D12 and Obie, and the fact that I’m really one of the only artists that didn’t have no album out and I was coming out every night to close the show. It was crazy performing in front that many motha fuckas it was the shit I’m not even going to front. And it was like one of the best experiences of my life AND the worst being that I had that accident… but you know how it is… that’s how it is.

Aftermathmusic.com:
How important are these live shows for you?

Stat Quo:
Man, these shows are crazy important for me because…umm believe it or not I like to perform but I didn’t really master it. You know, I felt like when I got my deal that was one of the aspects that I was weakest at. But after going on this tour and just being really a student and studying like this whole performance shit, you know what I’m saying? Like… It’s definitely taken me to a whole other level; you know what I’m sayin? It was crazy.

Aftermathmusic.com:
What do you want to say to everybody reading this interview?

Stat Quo:
I’m finished! How about that? Haha… holla back, buy my album… everybody reading this interview, buy my album. That’s what I wanted to say.

Thanks for your time Stat. Keep in touch. Greetings to the Shady / Aftermath family from Aftermathmusic.com
