Aftermathmusic.com:
What mood are you in at the moment? What have you been up to recently?
DJ Whoo Kid:
I´m doin fine. Got up 5 minutes ago. (laughs)
Aftermathmusic.com:
There’re a lot of DJ’s around dropping mixtapes. What do you think, what would describe your style as a mixtape DJ?
DJ Whoo Kid:
My style is, I always have a person, hostin’ my cd’s and my cd’s are hardcore. It’s really no RnB. It’s usually Nas, DMX, 50 Cent and other hardcore rappers.
Aftermathmusic.com:
The hype about 50 Cent is impressive. How did you meet 50?
DJ Whoo Kid:
I met him as a DJ on Hot 97. He doesn’t work there anymore. I met him at the studio and I’ve heard that 50 is there. But I don’t know that my cousin Sha Money XL was managing him. I liked his music and I started to promote him, when nobody knew him.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Do you think, G-Unit will revolutionize the RapGame?
DJ Whoo Kid:
I don’t think they are better than Eminem, but they definetely changed the way people hear music, ya know. It’s a transition time everywhere. Everybody looking for new artists. But G-Unit is the best new artist to be looking for.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What about G-Unit? I have heard about 100 people …
DJ Whoo Kid:
That’s a big crew, but the artists are Young Buck, Tony Yayo, Llyod Banks and 50.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What about Tony Yayo. When will he be out of Jail?
DJ Whoo Kid:
Yeah, he will be out in October.
Aftermathmusic.com:
You said, you never liked “How to Rob”. Why?
DJ Whoo Kid:
Yeah, I don’t like that song. I donno, it was to comercial. It’s like he did it, but I don’t know why. I think, it was for the industry, so people can talk about it. And I didn’t like the beat. It was the worst beat I ever heard.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What do you think about the feud between Aftermath/Shady/G-Unit and Murder Inc?
DJ Whoo Kid:
You know, I´m a DJ, so I really don’t get involved. Uuuuhm, they got problems. The problem is real, because of their history. It’s not like they rappin’ against eachother. They really have their own problems. I donno really know all the details.
Aftermathmusic.com:
I’ve heard a new Disstrack against Ja Rule with Busta Rhymes, too. Why Busta?
DJ Whoo Kid:
Well, I think Ja Rule said Busta’s name and he doesn’t understand why.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Are you going to work with Busta Rhymes again?
DJ Whoo Kid:
Yeah.
Aftermathmusic.com:
ShadyVille is your company and you run nycphatmixtapes.com and rapnetwork.com. I’ve read about ShadyVille Germany? Do you wanna build a company here in Germany, too? What are your plans for the company? What can we expect? What about Red Spyda?
DJ Whoo Kid:
Yeah, there and in Japan. I`m gonna be looking for artists and I`ll recruit some artists.
Aftermathmusic.com:
I see 2003 as the year of Aftermath and Shady. Rakim, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, G-Unit, Obie and Brooklyn, too, will release their albums. Are you goin to produce some tracks, too?
DJ Whoo Kid:
No, but Red Spyda do a couple of beats for Obie Trice. And they are working on The Game’s Album.
Aftermathmusic.com:
So The game will release his album in 2003, too?
DJ Whoo Kid:
Yeah. Red Spyda and Dr. Dre are the producers.
Aftermathmusic.com:
What kind of music do you actually listen to at home?
DJ Whoo Kid:
I listen to Hip Hop all day.
Aftermathmusic.com:
You think, would you like to produce some European Artists or promote them on your mixtapes?
Aftermathmusic.com:
What do you think about the phenomenon Eminem? There are a lot of haters out there, f.E. Benzino.
DJ Whoo Kid:
Eminem is bigger than everybody. And Benzino is triyng to sell records. He wants attention. That’s all.
Aftermathmusic.com:
Which advices do you have for young unsigned artists to make their first step into the music business?
DJ Whoo Kid:
Move to New York. You need a crew, you need a producer. And you need a story – a believable story, like Eminem. There was a story behind him. If there was no story behind him, nobody cares.
