The Wash (2001) The Wash is a hip-hop-styled film released on November 16, 2001 featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Xzibit and DJ Pooh, with an appearance made by Eminem. This film was written and directed by DJ Pooh. The dialog is notable for a huge amount of ghetto talk, as well as the frequent use and sale of drugs on screen accurately depicting the way things are for an everyday carwash in the middle of Los Angeles, though the film never specifies exactly where in the Los Angeles area it takes place. Presumably, the setting is thought to be South Central or one of the lower/lower-middle class incorporated cities in southern Los Angeles County. Training Day (2001) Training Day is a 2001 crime film directed by Antoine Fuqua, starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. The movie follows two LAPD narcotics detectives over a 24-hour period in the gang neighborhoods of South Los Angeles. The movie was written by David Ayer, both Ayer and Fuqua grew up in South Los Angeles neighborhoods. Training Day features appearances by actors Scott Glenn, Tom Berenger, Harris Yulin, Raymond J. Barry, and Eva Mendes. Musical artists Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Macy Gray were also featured. Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Bishop Lamont, Marsha Ambrosius
Shady Aftermath G-Unit Whiteboys (1999) In a virtually all-white Iowa town, Flip daydreams of being a hip-hop star, hanging with Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre. He practices in front of a mirror and with his two pals, James and Trevor. He talks Black slang, he dresses Black. He’s also a wannabe pusher, selling flour as cocaine. And while he talks about “keeping it real,” he hardly notices real life around him: his father’s been laid off, his mother uses Food Stamps, his girlfriend is pregnant, James may be psychotic, one of his friends (one of the town’s few Black kids) is preparing for college, and, on a trip to Chicago to try to buy drugs, the cops shoot real bullets. What will it take for Flip to get real? Set It Off (1996) Four Black women, all of whom have suffered for lack of money and at the hands of the majority, undertake to rob banks. While initially successful, a policeman who was involved in shooting one of the women’s brothers is on their trail. As the women add to the loot, their tastes and interests begin to change and their suspicions of each other increase on the way to a climactic robbery. |
